“Becoming a health advocate and sharing my experience with the world has answered the questions that have plagued me since I was diagnosed as a child: Why do I have rheumatic heart disease? Why do I have to depend on medicine? What is the purpose in my life? I have found my purpose in health advocacy,” said Anu Gomanju in the story of her rheumatic heart disease diagnosis and journey to becoming a health advocate in Nepal.

Anu is one of four remarkable Voices of NCDI Poverty Advocacy Fellows who has marked the conclusion of the fellowship by reflecting on her experience living with a severe, chronic NCD and sharing her motivation to advocate for others living with severe NCDs in low-income countries.
