WHO AFRO convenes meeting on “PEN-Plus” model for integrated services for severe, chronic NCDs

From 29 July - 1 August, 2019, The WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO) held a consultation to discuss the complimentary non communicable disease (NCD) package called Pen Plus. Pen Plus incorporates integrated care teams to tackle NCDs at the primary care level. WHO Rwanda and the Rwandan Ministry of Health partnered with WHO AFRO to co-host this meeting in Kigali.

The Zimbabwe NCDI Poverty Commission convened its inaugural meeting 23-24 September 2019 in Harare. During the two-day meeting, the Commission assessed the NCDI burden in Zimbabwe, completed a priority-setting process to identify priority NCDI conditions, and reviewed health interventions to address these conditions, taking equity and cost-effectiveness into account.

Lancet NCDI Poverty Commission Co-Chair Ana Mocumbi was lead author of a research article that studied individuals presenting to the emergency departments of three hospitals to generate reliable and robust data describing the pattern of emergency presentations attributable to communicable diseases (CDs), non-communicable disease (NCDs) and injuries in three different regions of Mozambique.

Harvard Medical School, Partners in Health,The Kletjian and Helmsley Foundations co-host side event at Geneva Press Club

On Wednesday 22 May 2019, Harvard Medical School’s Program in Global Non Communical Disease (NCD) and Social Change and the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change in partnership with Partners in Health’s NCD Synergies team, The Kletjian Foundation and the Leona M. & Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, hosted a two-hour side-event during the 72nd World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Over 140 people attended the event, including high-level participation from the Ministries of Health of Rwanda and Malawi, WHO, and a vast range of global health funders, academic partners and peer organizations.
